Astronaut Chris Cassidy Shows Off Faulty Spacesuit (Part 2)

Aboard the International Space Station, NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy discussed the ongoing efforts to solve a problem with crewmate Luca Parmitano’s spacesuit during a downlink video July 30. Cassidy demonstrated the suit and discussed some of the troubleshooting activities to identify the problem that caused water intrusion in Parmitano’s helmet during a spacewalk conducted by the two astronauts on July 16.

  1. This is the second part of the leaky spacesuit investigation video from the
International Space Station. Astronaut Chris Cassidy discusses the possible
locations of the water leak in Luca Parmitano’s spacesuit from the July 16
    spacewalk.

  6. *Astronauta Chris Cassidy mostra traje espacial defeituoso*

A bordo da Estação Espacial Internacional, o astronauta Chris Cassidy tenta
resolver um problema com o traje espacial. Cassidy demonstrou o traje e
tenta identificar o problema que causou a entrada de água no capacete do
astronauta Parmitano durante uma caminhada espacial realizada por dois

  7. So, it seems that it is either cooling water or drinking water, therefore
why not just add some color dye to either one?

As Chris said, very unlikely to be urine, even if it was clear, which
wouldn’t happen on their diet, it would stink.

  8. why do you have them all together why not separate and the body have a
moisture detector and the head with separate oxygene with a fabric that
goes around neck to still push cool air through like that of a breather
snorkel that they just came out with to breath with out a tank that just
lets oxygen through almost like that of a hydrogen engine pure oxygen
through i think aluminum because the oxygen is to small smaller than the
water molecules it separates the hydrogen from oxygen ? could you not make
a nano fiber like that of the metal that only breathes through the oxegen
not the water and have a fan next to the fabric if a leak occurs then it
would be in the body of the suit ? but i like the first idea 2 separate
valves of oxygen with water bag to drink in cavity of back of head like a
ice pack that is sealed with 2 bladders then hose by mouth ? sorry to many
    ideas sorry

  9. The design of these things look pretty crude to be honest. I know they are
old, or at least their design is. Very bulky and hard to move around in. If
you ever go to an air and space museum, study the suits as much as you can,
NASA’s are pretty much all the same since the Gemini missions i think…
These miniature spacecrafts needs a radically new design, and fast!
Something that would be a lot safer but at the same time enable better
maneuverability for operations in microgravity. (And solve the pressure
problem while you’re at it because waiting for the nitrogen to leave the
body takes a long time) I know that both NASA, ESA and a few private
companies are doing a lot to come up with a new generation space suit. But
honestly, they all look the same to me, its just another remake.
