QN07 – Local youth build urban resilience with saline water treatment

QN07 is one of 12 Youth-led Community-based Initiatives on building urban resilience to climate change. The Youth Initiatives Programme is implemented by Challenge to Change in 3 Vietnam cities (Da Nang, Quy Nhon, Can Tho), under the Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN) funded by Rockefeller.

A youth group from Department of Chemistry, Quy Nhon University comes to Nhon Binh commune, Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh province to assess people’s needs on accessing clean water, in the context of more frequent floods and saltwater intrusion. According to the finding, they consider the most appropriate model to treat saline water in these areas, install the models at household level and provide guidance for people to maintain the model. Recognizing the model’s success and efficiency, many other local people are willing to contribute 50% of total budget to install this model into their own houses.
