Secretary General Nyabally tours Vision 2016 farms

The Secretary General, Head of the Civil Service and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Honourable Lamin Nyabally has described “water availability” as key and a critical component of Vision 2016.

Honorable Nyabally said reliance on rainfall alone may cost government dearly and therefore pointed out the importance of pump irrigation using rivers and ground water. He lauded the farming community for showing interest in ensuring that irrigation can be introduced on a sustainable level and called on the contractors for the timely construction of dikes to prevent salt water intrusion into the rice fields.

The Minister of Presidential Affairs who is also responsible for Fisheries also jogged people’s memory on the issue of illegal fishing and the need to diversify agriculture for the socio-economic advancement of the country.

Honourable Nyabally was touring Vision 2016 rice fields and potential areas of aquaculture across the regions accompanied by the Minister of Environment, Parks and Wildlife; agriculture experts; the APRC National Women Mobiliser; and the Director of Women’s Bureau.
